Dobson invited to NFL Combine

Former Thundering Herd wide receiver Aaron Dobson impressed NFL scouts during Senior Bowl practice and now will get the chance to show off his skills at the NFL combine.

Aaron Dobson has been invited to the NFL Combine. He’s the only Marshall player invited this year.

Dobson has been invited to the annual evaluation process in Indianapolis that measures everything from physical attributes to mental acuteness (with varying levels of accuracy).  The South Charleston native finished his career in kelly green as one of the top receivers in Marshall history hauling in 24 touchdown catches (4th all-time) and 2,398 yards receiving (9th all-time).

Some analysts were skeptical of Dobson’s abilities coming from Conference USA, which is certainly not considered among the top leagues in college football.  However, after observing Dobson for a week at the Senior Bowl some began discussing him as a late first-round sleeper pick.

Russ Lande with the National Football Post, commented on Dobson’s ability to create space during routes and using his hands to catch the football away from his body.

Dobson was held without a catch in the Senior Bowl, but the North squad’s quarterbacks didn’t exactly have an impressive performance either.

He is the only Marshall player invited to NFL Combine this year and one of nine C-USA players to receive an invite.

If Dobson would sneak into the first round of the NFL Draft he’d become the first Marshall player to be selected in the first round since the Jacksonville Jaguars picked Byron Leftwich with the seventh overall pick in 2003.
