Herd filling coaching vacancies

Marshall has reportedly filled another vacancy on its football staff.  Footballscoop.com is reporting Doc Holliday has hired Kentucky Christian Head Coach Mike Fuerry as The Herd’s new wide receivers’ coach.

Furrey played seven seasons in the NFL with the Rams, Lions, and Browns making 41 starts during that time.  Furrey made 221 catches for 2,298 yards.  He also averaged 18.4 yards as a kick returner.  He also saw playing time on the defensive side of the ball, most notably starting 11 games at safety in 2005 for the St. Louis Rams.  Furrey suffered a concussion during training camp in 2010 while with the Washington Redskins and decided to retire.

Furrey spent two seasons as the Knights head coach tallying a record of 11-11.

Furrey’s reported hire is the second this week.

On Tuesday, it was reported former Temple assistant Sean Cronin would be joining his former boss at Marshall.  Cronin coached Marshall’s defensive line in 2010 before leaving for Temple after one season.  He coached under new Marshall defensive coordinator Chuck Heater and will likely coach The Herd’s safeties.
