Huntington High QB chooses Marshall

Huntington High quarterback Mark Shaver won’t have too go to far to play his college football.  Shaver announced Tuesday afternoon he plans to walk on with Marshall this fall.

Shaver has led the Highlander’s offense over the past two season as Huntington High has surged back as one of the top programs in Class AAA.  The Highlanders were 8-4 in 2011 finished the 2012 season 9-3, falling to Morgantown in the quarterfinals.  Huntington was also rated No. 1 in the state during the 2012 season.

“I feel like this is a great opportunity,” Shaver told the Huntington Herald-Dispatch. “There’s nothing better than playing in front of my town and being a part of the team that I’ve been watching since I was barely able to walk, it’s just amazing.”

While Shaver was under center for the Highlanders he will join The Herd listed as an “athlete.”  Herd coaches will evaluate him this fall and determine where he can best help the team.
