Herd drops its third in a row

Central Michigan scored three runs in the top of the ninth to claim its third straight win over The Herd 10-8 Saturday afternoon in Beckley.

Marshall twice erased Chippewa leads of but could not nail down the victory.  The Thundering Herd trailed by four runs heading into the bottom of the fifth but Marshall rallied for five runs while batting around.  Alfredo Brito singled to rightfield for the 100th hit in his career at Marshall.

Two innings later, CMU retook the lead on a two-out, two-RBI single off the bat of Neal Jacobs.  Marshall would respond in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Gray Stafford scored on an RBI triple by Chase Vogelbach.

Nursing a one run lead in the ninth, CMU took advantage back-to-back singles and a Marshall throwing error to plate three runs and escape with the victory.
