Charleston flower shop prepares for Valentine’s Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Roses are the traditional flower that symbolize love on Valentine’s Day, and the Food Among the Flowers shop in Charleston has plenty of them.

Barbie Fletcher, a basket designer at the shop, said they’ve been busy all week with orders dating back to two weeks ago. She noticed most customers want to buy their gifts the day before.

“A lot of folks want to see flowers, candy, balloons, stuffed animals, and so forth at the place of business,” said Fletcher.

With expected snow on the way tomorrow, she said the shop is fully prepared to make the runs they need to. They’ve rented extra vehicles with the same drivers that come back to help out every year. She said they know the area very well, so there aren’t many places they can’t get to.

“This is our Superbowl rush. We are gearing up for this all year long and we’re very prepared. This is our business and we love it. We’re real excited to be here and to take care of everyone,” Fletcher said.

It’s common to see last-minute shoppers on the holiday, but in 2015 that’s not always the case.

“There’s been a lot of television and social media advertising, so people have been going back and forth with either ordering very early or we’d have those last minute Valentines also,” she said.

Fletcher said it’s best to call the shop at (304)-345-7994 to offer a more personal one-on-one customer service. Online orders are also accepted through the Food Among the Flowers website at www.foodamongtheflowers.com.
