Kopp’s memory honored at statehouse

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Marshall University President Stephen Kopp was honored during “Marshall University Day” at the state Capitol Wednesday afternoon.

The House of Delegates and state Senate designated February 18, 2015 as the special day to remember the legacy Kopp left behind after passing suddenly on Dec. 17, 2014.

Senator Bob Plymale (D-Wayne) said Kopp’s death has left a major void at Marshall and the entire Mountain State. Plymale recognized his life, his time, and energy that Kopp put into the campus.

“His dedication and his role in transforming Marshall University will never be forgotten and I would like to make sure that we memorialize him in this way,” said Plymale.

Plymale credited Kopp’s leadership in transforming Marshall and its facilities. Plymale said it was unbelievable that Kopp planned over $300 million worth of construction on campus.

Plymale said Kopp kept his word by fulfilling the promise of a better future for Marshall students while challenging each person to dream boldly and plan well.
