Ski resorts have liked the last week

GHENT, W.Va. — Bitter cold and snow that blasted the state of West Virginia with record-low temperatures the past week made the state’s ski industry happy.

Tom Wagner, executive vice president of Winterplace and a member of the West Virginia Ski Areas Association, said heavy snowfall made for great outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

“The resorts right now are just absolutely at their best,” Wagner said, “The skiing and the snow we have in the state is as good as you’ll find anywhere in the country, if not better.”

Every slope in the Mountain State is open at all ski resorts for the first time this winter season, Wagner said. He touted the affordability of West Virginia ski and lodging packages compared to other areas of the country.

“West Virginia is such a great place to come and ski because we’re in that climate which is good winter weather, but easy to get to,” said Wagner.

The state’s resorts expect to have a healthy layer of snow on the slopes once March rolls around.
