ROMNEY, W.Va. — The grand jury meeting in Hampshire County has handed down an indictment in a murder case.
The panel meeting in Romney last week indicted Joshua Garrison, of Augusta, on six charges in connection with the murder of his neighbor, Betty Crouse, 83. He’s charged with murder, burglary, first degree robbery, larceny and destruction of property.
Garrison allegedly entered Crouse’s house through the backdoor at around midnight on Aug. 22 to steal drugs. Crouse ran out the front door but Garrison caught her and beat hear with an hammer and iron skillet, police said. Garrison also allegedly choked the woman.
Garrison told police he then went back into the house to steal the drugs.
A Hampshire County circuit judge will soon arraign Garrison on the charges and schedule the case for trial.
