Spring Valley’s Milum draws interest from bevy of Division I programs

Spring Valley’s Wyatt Milum (64) has already been offered by six Division I schools.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Wyatt Milum is anything but your average high school sophomore.

At 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, Milum already has the makeup of a college football player — and he’s likely to be one down the line.

Just three games into his sophomore campaign at Spring Valley, Milum has already received offers from six Division I programs, including West Virginia, Marshall, Louisville, Ohio State, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

“After the first game, we sent some film out and a lot of coaches started contacting me after that,” Milum said in the moments after the Timberwolves’ 35-7 week 3 win at Cabell Midland. “It kind of shocked me. I didn’t think it would happen at first, but I’m glad it did.”

Milum is the Timberwolves’ right tackle, though he doesn’t have much experience on the offensive line. As a freshman, Milum played tight end at nearby Wayne, before transferring to play for last year’s Class AAA runner-up.

Even with Milum’s stature, he’s nowhere near one of the Timberwolves’ two biggest linemen. Those honors belong to seniors Doug Nester (6-7, 312 lbs.) and Zach Williamson (6-6, 303). Nester is committed to Ohio State, while Williamson’s given his commitment to Louisville.

The trio helps form a front with talent and size not rivaled by most high school football teams.

“Doug’s taught me a lot this year,” Milum said. “He’s taught me how to pass block and run block better and how to get my hands in.”

Milum attended Ohio State’s season opener against Oregon State on an unofficial visit and said trips for games at Penn State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech could be in his future this season.

Milum also has an offer to play baseball at Marshall and earned Class AA first-team all-state honors last season as a pitcher for the Pioneers.
