AUGUSTA, W.Va. — A Hampshire County man faces charges of making terroristic threats after claiming he had coronavirus during a traffic stop.
According to state police, a trooper stopped a vehicle along U.S. Route 50 in Augusta last Friday night for speeding. During the traffic stop a man, identified as Shawn Sieben, 42, of Augusta, jumped out of the vehicle yelling at the trooper stating, “I have the virus.”
The trooper instructed Sieben to get back into his vehicle but he continuing to tell the trooper he has the coronavirus and is headed to the hospital to be seen regarding the virus.
Sieben allegedly made several attempts to close the distance between himself and the trooper and the trooper advised Sieben each time to step away from due to his allegations.
Hampshire County EMS and Augusta EMS responded to scene and evaluated Sieben. Sieben was cleared by EMS of having a fever or other symptoms of the coronavirus. Sieben then advised he had chest pains.The trooper transported Sieben to Hampshire Memorial Hospital where he was evaluated and cleared with no medical complications.
Sieben was arrested on charges of making terroristic threats and transported to Potomac Highlands Regional Jail.
