Marion County officials planning in-person high school graduation ceremonies

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Marion County officials are planning to hold in-person high school graduation ceremonies recognizing the class of 2020.

Marion County Schools Superintendent Randall Farley said in-person and online ceremonies will happen if allowed by the state. Schools would also have to follow guidance from the Marion County Health Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Video ceremonies will take place as well. In-person ceremonies are scheduled to take place in late June, though Farley noted the circumstances are constantly changing.

“What are the guidelines when we get there and how have they changed and what can we do to allow as many as possible?” he said. “If we can’t have everybody, there we’ll try to livestream it as well.”

In-person ceremonies for the county’s three high schools have been announced:

— North Marion High School, June 26 at 7 p.m. at Roy Michael Field at Woodcutters Stadium.
— Fairmont Senior High School, June 26 at 7 p.m. at East-West Stadium.
— East Fairmont High School, June 27 at 7 p.m. at East-West Stadium.
