Martinsburg Police Department Moves in to new Building Today

By Marsha Chwalik, Panhandle News Network

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — It’s move-in day for the new Martinsburg Police Department and Municipal Court building.
Martinsburg Police Chief George Swartwood told The Panhandle News Network, “It will increase police officer morale; it will increase our efficiency as officers, and it will further enhance our community policing philosophy and strengthen our relationships with all persons in this community in which we serve.”
The 33,000-square foot building offers triple the space of the old building and boasts a training room as well as space for community meetings.
There is no debt on the $14 million dollar building.
The city’s Dispatch Communications department already moved in to the West Race Street building.
The Municipal Court is closed today but will reopen tomorrow.
