Marshall game vs. FIU cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns at FIU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Friday’s scheduled football game between Marshall University and Florida International University has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues at FIU. Sources within the Marshall Athletic Department confirmed the cancellation to MetroNews.

The Herd, ranked 18th in the Coaches Poll and 19th in the Associated Press Poll, defeated Florida Atlantic University last Saturday in a 20-9 game.

The cancellation is the latest in several schedule changes Marshall has dealt with because of coronavirus concerns. Scheduled non-conference games with Ohio, Boise State and Pitt were removed from the schedule when conferences enacted new travel restrictions or delayed the start of their seasons due to the pandemic.

This is the third scheduled Conference USA game affected this season. The scheduled season opener against Rice was postponed as Rice delayed the start of its season and Old Dominion voluntarily opted out of the 2020 football season altogether.

Reports indicate there will be attempts to reschedule the game between Marshall and FIU, but neither team has a hole in its schedule at this point.
