Morgantown council approves Haws hiring

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved hiring Kim Haws as the new city manager.

City officials chose Haws, who was the city manager of Bridgeport for 20 years. He also served the same position in East Palestine, Ohio and St. Johns, Arizona.

Cincinnati-based Novak Consulting conducted the search for around $25,000. Morgantown leaders reviewed more than 100 applications for the position.

“I, too, am really thrilled we have someone of the caliber of Kim Haws that’s going to join us,” Mayor Ron Dulaney said. “Somebody who already understands cities in West Virginia and our unique circumstances here in our state and the unique tax structure we struggle with.”

Deputy Mayor Rachel Fetty shared a similar enthusiasm.

“I think he will bring a lot of steady evenhanded leadership to our staff,” she said.

Interim City Manager Emily Muzzarelli will return to serving as assistant city manager in December.
