ROMNEY, W.Va. — An elderly Hampshire County woman died in a house fire that occurred early Saturday morning near Romney.

The 94-year-old woman was unable to get out of her name located on Grassy Lick Road.

The fire was reported at a few minutes after 3 a.m. Saturday. When crews arrived on the scene they found the structure was well involved and partially collapsed. Initial reports indicated the occupants were home and potentially inside. Emergency crews conducted an aggressive search operation. Crews were forced to exit the building due to exploding propane tanks. Once the fire was knocked down an extensive search began and the occupant of the home was located.
