Tyler Phares recommended as next Bridgeport head football coach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former Elkins High School quarterback Tyler Phares has been recommended as the new head football coach at Bridgeport High School. Phares’ hiring must be approved by the Harrison County Board of Education at their regularly scheduled meeting on February 2.

Phares has spent the last three seasons on staff with the Indians as their offensive coordinator. In 2018, Bridgeport averaged 36.8 points per game. A year later, the Indians won the Class AA state championship, averaging 35 points a game. This past fall, the Indians installed a new single-wing offense which averaged 46.3 points per contest.

Phares has previously served as an assistant coach at Morgantown, William Campbell High School in Virginia and his alma mater of Elkins.

If approved by the Harrison County BOE, Phares will replace John Cole, who resigned in December after a four-year run as Bridgeport’s head coach.
