Poca’s Isaac McKneely is bound for Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The top-rated recruit from the state of West Virginia in the Class of 2022 has announced his college of choice. Poca junior Isaac McKneely verbally committed to the University of Virginia Saturday afternoon.

Other schools in his original ‘Top 8 list’ included: Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Purdue and West Virginia.

McKneely averaged 22 points a game in his sophomore season and his Dots were off to a 21-3 start last season before the pandemic canceled the Class AA regional round. McKneely led Poca to the state tournament in his freshman season.

McKneely is listed as a 4-star recruit and is rated as the nation’s No. 57 prospect on the Rivals 150 list. Virginia remains the defending national champion, having defeated Texas Tech 85-77 in the 2019 NCAA final.

When the Dots open the 2021 season on March 5 at Chapmanville, McKneely will be one of four likely Division I athletes in the Poca starting lineup. Ethan Payne has signed with the Marshall football program. Toby Payne owns ‘Power 5’ football scholarship offers and Noah Rittinger is receiving Division I interest.
