Investigator says leads in Morgantown woman’s murder pointing in similar direction

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Detectives in Monongalia County are actively following multiple leads with the help of state police in the Alexa Randolph homicide investigation.

Alexa Randolph

Randolph was last seen alive at her Morgantown apartment on Jan. 28. A missing person report was filed with the Morgantown Police Department and about 24 hours later the body of the 32-year-old was found in the cargo area of her Ford Escape parked in the Walmart parking lot just of the Interstate 68 Morgantown exit.

Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Pete Tennant said Friday on WAJR Radio’s ‘Talk of the Town’ the leads into the death are similar in nature.

“I will say we have multiple leads which has certainly taken us in a particular direction,” Tennant said. “I won’t identify a suspect or suspects at this point, but I will say that evidence and leads have pointed us in a certain direction.”

Tennant said there’s also a lot of evidence to review.

“Digital evidence, electronic evidence to determine where she may have been, where she came from and who else could be involved,” Tennant said.

Tennant said the missing person investigation turned up some suspicious signs from the start.

“It was a situation where she hadn’t pick up her child and that made people think that something wasn’t right,” Tennant said. “That’s when they started looking into where she could possibly be and who she talked to last.”

Tennant said Randolph’s death is a murder case.

“Once we recovered the body and took it to Charleston, the Medical Examiner looked at it they confirmed we were investigating a homicide,” Tennant said.

According to Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer, the investigation is active and any information can be left confidentially by calling 304-291-7218.

“As of this time, her vehicle has been taken to the State Police Crime Lab as well as some other evidence,” Palmer said Friday.
