CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia have dropped by more than 16,000 in the past 30 days, according to case numbers released Tuesday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.
Active cases Tuesday stood at 10,969, the lowest since Nov. 16, 2020. Active cases were at 27,254 a month ago.
Gov. Jim Justice said increasing vaccinations have contributed to the decrease. The DHHR said Tuesday more than 144,000 state residents have now been fully vaccinated.
The DHHR added four COVID-19 deaths Tuesday including a 78-year old male from Berkeley County, a 64-year old male from Webster County, a 76-year old female from Raleigh County, and a 77-year old male from Kanawha County. Total deaths are now at 2,216.
There were no red counties on the state’s COVID-19 daily alert map Tuesday, marking a third straight day with no high spread county.
