Green counties increase on COVID-19 map

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Eighteen counties were green on Wednesday’s COVID-19 daily alert map released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Green represents the lowest rate of spread of COVID-19. The green counties are spread throughout the state. The state has gone three straight days without a red county, which represents the highest rate of spread.

The state DHHR did report 289 new cases Wednesday. Active cases have fallen to 10,522. Those numbers have decreased each day for more than four weeks. The daily positivity test rate is 3.41%.

There were nine additional deaths in Wednesday’s report including a 66-year old female from Mercer County, an 83-year old female from Wyoming County, a 90-year old female from Fayette County, a 79-year old male from Taylor County, a 95-year old male from Harrison County, an 80-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 70-year old male from Grant County, a 68-year old male from Grant County, and an 83-year old female from Wayne County.

Total deaths are at 2,225.

Hospitalizations were at 320 Wednesday, holding steady from Tuesday’s report.

The DHHR said more than 145,000 state residents have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
