Charges filed in Hampshire County teenager’s death

ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office reports a juvenile faces charges for the murder of a 14-year-old boy.

Johnny Adams (HCSD)

A male juvenile is in custody and is charged with the murder of Johnny Adams.

Adams’s body was recovered from a shallow grave near Augusta on July 18, 2020.

An autopsy completed by the state Medical Examiner’s Office revealed Adams had been shot in the head.

According to previous reports, a 16-year-old family member was initially charged with unrelated crimes at the time of Adams’ death and has been in juvenile custody. He’s now been charged with murder. His name has not been released because of his juvenile status.

Adams’ body was found in a shallow grave near Augusta following a search by representatives of more than a dozen agencies and community groups. He was first reported missing July 12.

Adams came to Hampshire County from Connecticut in March to stay with family members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hampshire County Prosecutor Rebecca Miller is moving forward with the case, authorities said.
