United Way chapter gets ‘We Can Move Mountains’ campaign underway

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties has begun its annual fundraising campaign with officials setting a $1.2 million goal.

The organization uses the funds to support various efforts addressing issues like health and education attainment.

“The theme for our campaign this year is ‘We Can Move Mountains,'” 2022 Campaign Chair Tammie Alexander said. “It’s really because a lot of our state has mountains that are challenges. Sometimes just facing it and knowing where to turn for help and guidance to get over that mountain is the hardest part.”

The organization has reached 34% of its campaign goal through the Pacesetters Program and early events.

“You can give a one-time donation through your workplace campaign, or there are ways to give using Text to Give or through Venmo,” Alexander noted. “If somebody wants to give just $1, $5 or $10, it doesn’t matter. We have ways for you to easily be able to give.”

Alexander is familiar with United Way’s efforts; when she moved to Morgantown as a single mother, she needed help advancing her career while caring for her daughter. Alexander now has a law degree and the ability to support her family.

“People like me, they’re everywhere,” she said. “I promise you that everyone who has a job or lives in this community knows someone who needs help from time to time.”

Several events will take place into November supporting the campaign.
