Two sentenced in Salem bank robbery

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – Two were sentenced in federal court today for roles in the November 2020 robbery of the Summit Community Bank in Salem.

Clinton Utter

Clint Monroe Utter, of West Milford, will serve more than 15 years in prison for bank robbery and conspiracy to commit money laundering. David Allen Gill, of Salem will serve four years for being an accessory after the fact. The two are also ordered to jointly pay $69,100 in restitution.

David Gill

On November 17, 2020, Utter robbed the bank of $69,1000 and fled in a car owned by one of the bank employees. Despite efforts by Gill to help Utter hide from police, he was arrested during a traffic stop days after the crime.

Detectives say Utter was going to launder the proceeds from the robbery by purchasing gift cards.
