Former WVU Kicker pledges $1 million to WVU Medicine Children’s

MORGANTOWN – Pat McAfee has been cashing in on his post-football career as a media personality and now he’s giving back to the communities that helped him grow into the the man he is today.

In a 17-minute video posted to his YouTube page on Thursday, the former West Virginia University kicker announced a massive deal with FanDuel, that will reportedly pay him $30 million a year to continue “The Pat McAfee Show.” He also announced several major pledges including a $1 million donation to the WVU Medicine Children’s Building Fund.

“Players would get to go over there and interact with kids that were much tougher than all of us and see what it was like to give back and put a smile on their face,” recalled McAfee. “It was the first place I truly served the community.”

McAfee, who kicked for the Mountaineers for four seasons (2005-08) credited his coach, the late Bill Stewart, for teaching him about the importance of giving back to the community.

“Bill Stewart was a man who was one of my coaches, rest in peace. He was a tight ends coach and special teams coordinator then my senior year he became the head coach and he was always big in ‘give back to the community,'” McAfee recalled.

McAfee, who spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, also pledged donations to support local youth sports programs back in his hometown of Plum, PA as well as pledges to the charities of his former Colts’ teammates Robert Mathis and Peyton Manning.
