Ritchie County completed a true Cinderella story in the 2021 Super Six against top-seed Williamstown. Many did not expect the Rebels to be in the state title game, but they went toe-to-toe with the Yellow Jackets, who appeared in their 10th state final.
Gus Morrison saved his best showing for last as he posted 222 total yards and five total touchdowns.
The state title victory marked the first one in Ritchie County history. There was a crowd of 4,350 on-site.

This game featured the most combined points in any state football final in West Virginia history. You would’ve thought it was a basketball game with a score of 69-52 (121 total points).
Nitro featured a loaded offense featuring two-time Kennedy award winner J.R. House and Josh Culbertson.
House eclipsed many state-records, including 43 completions, 594 yards, and ten touchdowns.
