ESPN to host College GameDay before West Virginia’s opener at Pitt

West Virginia’s season opener at Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 1 was already to be played before a national audience on ESPN.

On Thursday, the network revealed the season’s first ESPN College GameDay will be held inside the newly-named Acrisure Stadium in advance of the 104th edition of the Backyard Brawl.

Host Rece Davis and analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack will present a one-hour edition of the pregame show starting at 6 p.m. before the nearby rivals meet for the first time since 2011.

It will mark the 422nd edition of the road broadcast and the fifth that includes West Virginia.

The Mountaineers hosted the show before a 2011 game against LSU and again in 2014 when they welcomed TCU. WVU has also been the road opponent for two editions of the show — the 2012 Orange Bowl against Clemson and a 2017 contest at TCU.

Two days following the Mountaineers’ matchup at Pitt, College GameDay will be in Columbus for its usual 9 a.m.-noon time slot on Saturday before Ohio State welcomes Notre Dame.
