A Respectful Number of Undefeated Teams!

With week #5 of the high school football season now officially in the books, we have only six more weeks of the regular season left to be played!  And, with that said, we have a respectful number of undefeated teams remaining, especially in Class A.

Looking at the specific numbers, in Class AAA there are only two teams still undefeated through week #5 and they are Parkersburg South (5-0) and Spring Valley (4-0). In Class AA, the number of undefeated teams stand at five and they include North Marion (5-0), Frankfort (5-0), Roane County (5-0), Independence (5-0) and Scott (5-0).  In Class A, the number of undefeated teams is impressive standing at twelve!  Those twelve include Wheeling Central (4-0), Williamstown (4-0), Wahama (5-0), Van (5-0), Doddridge County (4-0), Greenbrier West (5-0), Tucker County (4-0), James Monroe (4-0), Wirt County (4-0), Montcalm (4-0), Cameron (5-0) and Petersburg (5-0).  If you add the number of undefeated teams in each class together, you will find of the 106 teams in the state that play high school football, after week #5, we still have 19 teams with a perfect record!

Looking ahead to week #6, there is certainly a chance the number of 19 undefeated teams may be reduced.  For those 19 undefeated teams, here is their schedule for week #6:

In Class AAA:  Parkersburg South (5-0) vs. Bridgeport (4-1) and, Spring Valley @ South Charleston (0-4).  In Class AA this week:  North Marion (5-0) vs. Fairmont Senior (3-2), Frankfort (5-0) @ Mountain Ridge, Md. (4-0), Roane County (5-0) vs. Ripley (1-4), Independence (5-0) vs. Bluefield (1-4), and, Scott (5-0) @ Mingo Central (1-3).  In Class A this week:  Wheeling Central (4-0) @ Mt. View (1-3), Williamstown (4-0) vs. St. Marys (3-1), Wahama (5-0) vs. Magnolia (0-5), Doddridge County (4-0) @ Wirt County (4-0), Greenbrier West (5-0) @ Shady Spring (2-3), Tucker County (4-0) @ Pendleton County (2-2), James Monroe (4-0) @ Pikeview (2-3), Montcalm (4-0) vs. Hundred (0-3), Cameron (5-0) vs. Madonna (3-1), and, Petersburg (5-0) and Van (5-0) are idle in week #6.

As you can see above we have a lot of interesting games coming up this weekend, plus all over the state, whether your favorite team is undefeated or not, if they are playing then their game is definitely worth attending.

Make sure after your local high school football game to join Dave Jecklin and me on GAMENIGHT, as we will bring you all the scores of all the games played across the state.  GAMENIGHT is heard weekly on 48 radio stations statewide plus the audio and video of the show is streamed @www.dev.wvmetronews.com.
