Fall colors to peak this weekend in Pocahontas County

POCAHONTAS COUNTY, W.Va. — Fall is shaping up in Pocahontas County with peak colors expected to make an appearance this weekend.

Cara Rose with the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau said on Wednesday’s MetroNews “Talkline” this is the prime time to visit.

“Anytime between the end of September through the middle of October for our region the fall color is beautiful,” Rose said.

Pocahontas County relies a lot on the fall season for tourism revenue. Rose said more people are traveling to the region in recent years.

“A large portion of our visitorship is West Virginians, about 10 percent are West Virginians, and during the fall it’s much greater than that,” she said.

Most visitors also come from surrounding states like Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Rose said they’ve seen some snowflakes at Snowshoe Mountain already.
