PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Northern Garrett, Md. scored touchdowns on their first six possessions of the game to deal Petersburg their first defeat of the year, 49-20 Thursday evening.

The Huskies had three different players score multiple touchdowns as they leveled their record at 3-3. Two of their three losses are to West Virginia Class AA teams in Frankfort and Keyser.

Northern jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead with short touchdown runs from Ethan Sebold [3 yards] and Kellen Hinebaugh [2 yards]. Northern extended their lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter when Sebold surged in from a yard out.

Facing fourth-and-3 at the Northern 20-yard line on the ensuing possession, Petersburg answered back when William Vanmeter scored on a quarterback keeper to get the Vikings within 15 points at 21-6. Peyton Day later added a 44-yard touchdown run for PHS.

However, Northern found the end zone twice more before halftime. After Petersburg recovered an onside kick, Kyle Broadwater returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown. In the final minute of the half, Sebold scored his third touchdown of the half on a 3-yard tote. Northern led 35-12 at halftime.

The Huskies scored touchdowns twice more in the third quarter. Broadwater broke free for a 29-yard run and Hinebaugh added a 10-yard tote to make the score 49-12 through three quarters.

Petersburg capped the scoring three minutes into the fourth quarter when Vanmeter connected with Day on a 34-yard scoring strike.

The Vikings (5-1) look to bounce back when they host Mountain View, Va. on October 14.
