Tourism and HMT team up for side-by-side giveaway

LYBURN, W.Va. — The Hatfield McCoy Trails is partnering with the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the office of Governor Jim Justice to giveaway a pair of UTV’s in celebration of the trail system’s exploding growth.

“The Hatfield-McCoy Trails has had two great years of growth and we know gas prices have been tough on people, so we wanted to give people just a little bit of extra incentive to come,” said Trails Executive Director Jeff Lusk.

The give away will come from a drawing of all of those who purchased a 2022 HMT riding permit. The permits are on sale through November 15th.

“We’re going to give one resident and one non-resident permit holder a free four-seat Kawasaki Teryx UTV,” he said.

“The Hatfield-McCoy Trails have been an incredible draw for many visitors to our state, as well as our in-state residents,” Gov. Justice said. “Last year alone, 29,500 new riders explored the expansive trail system! On top of that, we’ve invested hundreds of millions of dollars to not only make sure that the trails are in great condition, but also to ensure that the communities near the trails are growing and ready to welcome guests. I can’t think of a better way to get more riders out on the trails this fall than by making the deal even sweeter with a major giveaway like this!”

During the two years of the pandemic, the trails saw unprecedented growth and expansion of riders. Lusk said that doesn’t seem to be reduced with the pandemic over.

“I think Covid caused people to want to find the outdoors and the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System checked all the boxes of being an outdoor activity you could do with your family and with somewhat limited interaction with others. Now that Covid is subsiding, those folks are still coming back,” he said.

Hatfield McCoy Trail permits can be purchased at any Hatfield-McCoy Office or over the counter of hundreds of retailers throughout southern West Virginia. Permits cost $50 for non-residents and $26.50 for West Virginia residents. One permit provides full access to all Hatfield-McCoy Trail Systems and is valid through December 31 of the calendar year purchased.

Both the in-state and out-of-state giveaway winners will receive a 2023 Kawasaki Teryx four seat UTV in Metallic Sierra Blue. The drawing will be held December 15th.
