It’s WVU Homecoming Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – It is Homecoming Week on the campus of West Virginia University with an entire week of activities leading up to the Big 12 game against TCU in Milan Puskar Stadium next Saturday.

WVU Vice President of Alumni Relations Kevin Berry said activities are planned all week for the first homecoming celebration since the pandemic.

“We have everything from the tradition of the homecoming parade, obviously the football game on Saturday,” Berry said. “We have schools and colleges doing open houses and tailgates and we have opportunities for students in terms of mentoring.”

The week of activities also includes mobile opportunities to take the celebration to the students with Mobile Spirit Truck Stops during the week.

“Students can stop by and pick up homecoming designed posters and pins, participate in a game of WVU trivia,” Berry said. “It’s a great opportunity for the WVU Alumni Association to engage with the current student body.”

One featured event is the 2022 Mountaineer Mascot Reunion in the Kennedy Room of the Erickson Alumni Center Thursday at 7 p.m. Alums fortunate enough to spend time in the buckskins will hold “Fireside Chats With The Former Mountaineer Mascots.”

“These former mascots are going to talk about their time in the role and how it impacted their student experience and life afterwards and what it means to serve as the iconic Mountaineer,” Berry said.

Local expert and Associate Vice President of Business & Auxiliary Services Ted Svehlik will facilitate an in depth conversation about the evolution and future of the Morgantown WVU campus Wednesday at 2 p.m. Svehlik will share information about special areas on campus and a look into what the future may look like.

“What is was like in the past, how it looks currently and also a bit of a preview of the coming plans for the next several years,” Berry said.

Students at the Statler College of Engineering are already preparing for the 33rd Annual Pumpkin Drop hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Participants assemble a mechanism to protect the pumpkin for a launch from the 11 story Engineering and Science Building on Friday,

“It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with school aged students,” Berry said. “You’ll see people from across campus come and watch this- it’s really a fun experience.”

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. in downtown Morgantown. Line up for the parade begins at 4 p.m. on High Street.

The week of activities, open houses and tailgates culminates with the home game against TCU in Milan Puskar Stadium Saturday. Kick off time has not yet been released.
