Guilty plea in Brooke County dog shooting case

WELLSBURG, W.Va. — A Brooke County man pleaded guilty Monday to killing his neighbor’s dog.

Ronald Sebeck, 71, of Wellsburg, entered a guilty plea in Brooke County Circuit Court to a felony animal charge.

Sebeck shot and killed an 18-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Poppy. The dog was reported missing on Sept. 29. Investigators learned of the shooting on Oct. 6.

Sebeck threw the dog’s body over the side of the hill after the shooting, police said.

Sebeck faces 1 to 5 years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine during his sentencing which is scheduled for Dec. 12.
