State police report officer-involved shooting

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Mercer County man faces charges after firing at police Wednesday morning as officers were attempting to serve a search warrant.

According to state police, the agency’s Special Response Team was assisting with serving the warrant in Princeton at about 6:10 a.m. when a man identified as Amir Lumpkins, 24, of Princeton, shot at them.

State police said the gunfire struck the response vehicle and penetrated the outer jacket of one of the team members. Officers returned fire hitting Lumpkins in the leg. He was treated for a non-life threatening injury. The trooper whose jacket was hit was not injured.

Charges are pending against Lumpkins.
